Highland Hiking
Hiking The West Highland Way, climbing Ben Nevis, then hiking The Great Glen Way The PlanWelcome to my latest adventure
The map shows all the routes I’ll be taking and if all my technology works, should show where I am.
To see a few words about my latest hike and some of the thoughts behind it, click the Trek Details button at the top of this page.
I’m so very grateful for anyone and everyone that has taken an interest in what is ultimately a pretty selfish activity, but really happy with all of the support and encouragement I receive!
Once I’ve started trekking, a link should appear below which you can click on to zoom in on the map and see where I am. As always, I’ll be noting down my inane thoughts as I go along and recording them as posts. The most recent of which are at the bottom of the page. Your comments are always gratefully received.

News from the trail
I’m a time traveller
If I’ve got the physics correct, there is a chance I’ve got them wrong, as we go faster, time slows down. This means the astronauts on the international space station are aging slightly slower than the rest of us down here on earth. There’s not a lot in it, I think...
It was easier on a boat
It’s been an interesting day today. At some points it felt like things were going wrong and it became quite stressful and difficult, and other times, thankfully the majority, it was really fun although often quite challenging. When we travelled on Loch Ness on the...
A significant diversion
It appears that I wasn’t properly listening to the man I met at the bottom of the locks on the Caledonian Canal yesterday. He was telling me about part of the route that diverts on the other side of a loch and was telling me it was quite a pain and that it was closed...
Wasn’t expecting much
The Great Glenn Way I think is often considered the poor relation of the West Highland Way. I don’t think that’s official in any way but it’s just the impression I get when speaking to people. This had formed a vision in my mind of what to expect so I wasn’t really...
A good day off
I really didn’t think that this part of the trip was going to happen. The weather all over the UK had been really bad leading up to my departure date, so even though I was hoping for at least some clear sky, the idea that a climb of Ben Nevis would be possible seem...
A nice little stroll
I’m pretty pleased with myself. I know many people have completed this walk before me and many will in the future, but as I was walking towards Fort William I decided that I was going to be proud of myself. I say of most things that anyone could do it and there’s...
