Always take your umbrella
I always ask the same question when I pack for each of my trekking holidays. Shall I pack my umbrella. It always ends up coming on the trip but it does tend to get added and removed from the kit list a few times before a decision is made. Most back packers probably...
Live update
I’m really sorry but I’ve not yet managed to write up my post from the walk yesterday. I went from Yelland to Morthoe. Which isn’t far as the crow flies but a bit of a slog on the coastal path. I’ve set off early today so I’ve not had time to do anything except walk,...
Whoops – but not a disaster
I’d been looking at this part of the route a long time before even arriving on the coastal path. Most times, when there is a bit estuary or river, there is a way to get across. Normally that’s a ferry or sometimes it’s a case of walking across at low tide....
And, as if by magic
I’ve just got into Richmond and was really craving a Greggs. Plus I knew I needed more plasters and some Ibuprofen. Walked into the centre and saw this. I’ve been a little greedy but I’m hungry. On a side note - Richmond seems nice. I’ve only got about 3 miles to go...
Just stopping for a rest and the rain to pass
I bumped into a nice couple from Atlanta. When I mentioned about my knee hurting but that I’d get something for it in Richmond they gave me some Ibuprofen. So kind. Feel great now. Trying to remember to take my time today. It’s not far and I need to be ok for...
This is a path
Heading to just past Richmond today. Only 13 miles and fairly flat (apparently just some undulation) so going to take my time and recover. My knee hurts but Richmond is a small town so I’ll get some Ibuprofen there. Happy today
Made it to Grinton and another confession
Totally messed up with planning this leg. Very long and also lots of climbing. The highest combined climb of the trip. Luckily I realised the night before so planned to leave early. The first 10 miles went really well and even though the second 10 were extremely tough...
Good to go
25 miles of the Yorkshire Dales here we come!
Early arrival (for me)
Made it to Kirby Stephen by about 6pm so I could take my time setting up and getting a few things dry. I’ll be honest, the views in the lakes are more spectacular but I still enjoyed the rolling hills today. Especially as there was far less climbing. I don’t think I...
