It can’t make up its mind

Something for everyone

Wow, this path is just amazing. One minute you’re waking in open fields above a cliff, then you’re going down a narrow bush lined passage that takes you out onto a beach, then you’re climbing with switchbacks for what feels like forever and coming out to narrow paths with views down the coast line.

Sometimes the path does lead you onto roads and as we all know Cornish roads are narrow so that can be interesting when a car comes. Luckily they’re not very frequent. Even though I’m not particularly excited about walking on a road it does mean you can up your pace a bit. Makes up a little for the steep climb where’s it’s definitely a case of slow and steady.

The car park

You know, it wasn’t too bad really. By some miracle I’d positioned the tent in a fairly reasonable spot and definitely not it anyone’s way. I was up at 6am and gone by 6:45am so it wouldn’t have mattered anyway. The only slight issues was the odd car pulling up late at night. There was only about three but one felt the need to pull some doughnuts which did put me on edge a bit.

Considering all this and the fact I’d got myself into a bit of a panic I was really pleased that I got a decent sleep. I don’t know why but I have dreams that I’m continuing to walk the coast path and trying to find places to stay. I think that’s the only negative to wild camping.

Firing range

There was another danger area on the route today but unlike last week this one had no red flags and I was allowed to walk through. I then proceeded to go the wrong way but it did mean that I got to walk on a really quiet beach for a while. Slightly more annoying though when I had to walk back on myself for about a mile. On balance probably worth it though.

Some people were already out surfing and I noted that some had pitched tents on the beach. Maybe I should have done that. There were a lot of warning signs about rock falls though so I’m not sure I’d have pitched quite so close to the bottom of the cliffs.

Did a bit or rock climbing

As you approach Seaton the path again seems to be the road and that carries on for a little while. However, when you’re in the village you can get down to the beach. The sand here is really grey which I found unusual. Following the beach you can then get to a path but, I think due to coastal erosion defences, there’s a bit of rock climbing to do. Now, I may be massively exaggerating here because it was just a few rocks but still technically climbing I’d say.

On my way to Looe

Once out of Seaton it’s again a walk on a road followed by a really steep path that gets you to the top of the cliffs. Here you have small paths, woodland walks, fields and also, guess what, a few roads.

I’m nearly at Looe now but it’s been slow progress. I’ve been able to see it for hours along the coast but it never seems to get any nearer

I’m having a few issues with my feet today so hoping to get a campsite some time after Looe to try and give my feet a bit of a rest.

Great job Ben, we visited Looe a few years ago, I do recall some VERY narrow roads.
    Well done!
    On you go!
