Too many posts!!
I’m just taking a break and decided to write a post. Hopefully that won’t be too confusing but as I’m getting on in years I notice that stuff I’m absolutely certain I won’t forget, no matter what, I forget.
Making my way from Branscombe to Sidmouth
I’m about 1 mile from Sidmouth now. I’ve only covered 4.5 miles but it’s been really tough. Very enjoyable though and, goes without saying really, the views have been spectacular.
The terrain is up and down, up and down. You can often see the coastline ahead and know it’s got more in for you. It’s incredibly satisfying though. I’ve just stopped after a particularly big climb for a rest. I may have let out a little cheer at the top – not sure. My watch thinks I’ve already climbed 1050 metres today (unless that’s in feet in which case I’m disappointed).
At one stage a couple of miles back, the path kicks you out onto a beach which was idilic. I wanted to stay there. It feels like you’re not in the UK. Unfortunately a few yards later on the footpath pulls you back into another steep climb.
Camp
It was nice to have a proper campsite last night. It meant I could put the melted chocolate bar I had in the freezer along with some Lucozade and I also had a decent shower. I think it was cooler last night as well because I slept really well. Not too hot this time – just right.
I’m really pleased I had a chance to sort out my water bladder. Water now doesn’t taste of chemicals which is a massive bonus. I also got a chance to put my leggings back on the right way around. I’ve had them on backwards for the last couple of days.
Destination Unknown
I’m going to head into Sidmouth now and get some lunch and supplies for the rest of the day. Based on the terrain I think it’s going to be a slow one today so I’m just going to take my time. Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth are the next large places on the coast so I’ll probably aim to camp between them but that really depends how fast I go. I’m only averaging about 2.5 miles and hour today due to age and how many climbs there are.
This stuff is amazing – I bought it in Lyme Regis for my sunburn but when you spray it on it’s so cooling. It was bliss.
I didn’t want to stop spraying it. It’s like finding a tap when you’re thirsty!
Good morning from the US!!
A bonus Blog during morning tea.
Photos along the beach are beautiful. Don’t worry about the pace, just soak it all in!
On you go!!
