Totally messed up with planning this leg. Very long and also lots of climbing. The highest combined climb of the trip.
Luckily I realised the night before so planned to leave early.
The first 10 miles went really well and even though the second 10 were extremely tough going I was ok. Just glad to be making progress and my ETA was for around 7-7:30pm so that was positive. Some of the paths aren’t really paths and are quite tricky.
The last 5 miles was fairly easy terrain but I found it really hard. My feet were hurting a lot and I was getting tired. Not quite as fit as I thought!! When I got the the hostel (which was on top of a hill!) I’m afraid I just had no energy and it was really windy and wet so I asked if they had any accommodation available other than camping. The person working here was so helpful and let me stay in a dorm and also cooked me dinner (there is a menu and you pay but he was on his own so nice of him to do it). No one else is here so it’s like a private room.
So top marks to YHA Grinton. I’ll be adding them to my monthly charity donations I think.
Apparently day 7 is relatively flat and is definitely shorted so hopefully a good recovery day. Also I notice I’m roughly half way across the country now. Sorry for such a late update.
Some stats from my watch for the day.
Well done Ben, we think you’re amazing. The scree looks terrifying – hope the knees were covered up!!
